April Featured Artists

Featured this month are Liz Ellingson, Shari Southard, Connie Simonsen, and Claudia Law

Liz Ellingson – Mixed Media

In addition to her sterling silver jewelry, Liz has now branched out into mixed media painting.  Always creating something, she has reached back into her past, and reclaimed her love of painting and collage.  This was just a creative outlet on the weekends, but has turned into something more serious.  Liz started painting as a kid in grade school, taking lessons in middle and high school, and starting out as an art/music major in college.  She uses acrylic paint, in addition to collage materials she creates mostly from scratch. (Rather than using magazine clippings.) She’s excited to continue with Ashland Art Works showing this new art work!   http://www.silverrockdesign.com

Shari Southard – Watercolor Paintings

Shari is a plein air painter,  she paints outside on location.  Shari’s love of nature acts as a conduit to her inspiration for her paintings. Mountain hikes or coastal views – the smells, the sounds, the birds and animals all become part of her visual journal. Her paintings are a representation of the world as she sees it.

Connie Simonsen – Hand Painted Silks

Connie Simonsen expresses her vision through color, while painting in an abstract way on luscious silk.  Finding symbolism inspired by nature, be it from skies to earthy likenesses such as petrified wood or the depths of the ocean, all images reflect the pristine imagery of her surroundings.

Claudia Law – Textile Art

With a background in commercial art, Claudia mixes paint, hand dyed fabrics, embellishments, stitching, buttons, and sculptural techniques to produce rich colorful and textural 3D wall hangings. Claudia is inspired by nature and poetry and her subjective fiber art is often accompanied by a story or statement.
